Dandiya Competition:

We had organized a Dandiya Dance Competition for our kids on the last day of Navratri festival. Though we didn’t get any Sponsors to organize this competition, we executed it with the best way possible from our end. Kids who participated in this competition enjoyed to the core. This competition was also telecasted by a local Valsad media. One of our Donor’s Mr. Ketan bhai had requested the Valsad media personnel to telecast the competition on their channel. We thank Mr. Ketan Bhai from the bottom our hearts for his kind gesture. Following were the results of the competition:

Girls:
1st Place – Mitali
Runners up – Laxmi
3rd Place - Sheela
Boys:
1st Place – Pandu
Runners up – Akshay

Singing Competition organized on the 2nd of October’13 (ie. Shri. Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary):

We organized a Singing Competition on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti for our kids. This event was exclusively sponsored by Upavan. There were four levels in this competition (viz. 1. Students from 1st to 5th Grade, (2) Students from 6th to 8th Grade, (3) Students from 9th to 12th Grade. (4) Students from the Adult Training Center for the Blind (ie ATCB). Following are the names of the winners of this competition:

Students from 1st to 5th Grade:

Students from 6th to 8th Grade:
1st Place – Chetan Zanjar

Eye Donation Awareness Rally:

An Eye Donation Awareness Rally was held on the 7th of September’13. The rally was to commemorate the eye donation awareness week that was celebrated recently. All our students participated in this rally. An inter-school drawing competition was also held on this day.

 

Visit by students from BNB High School, Surat (VAV):

Kuvadiya Piyush & Ketul Dholiya (9th grade students) visited our institute on the 9th October’13 for a school project. They wanted to know more about blind people. They were enlightened after visiting our centre. Before visiting our centre they didn’t knew that blind people can work on computers. They were surprised to meet our computer teacher Mr. Ansari Mohammed who is a Computer teacher at NAB Valsad. Ansari taught these kids a few keyboard tricks. Kuvadiya Piyush & Ketul Dholiya shared their experience at NAB Valsad on a video clip.

Flag Day for the Blind:

Every year on the 14th September comes the day of celebration and expression of talent and joy. On this day we observe the Flag Day for the Blind. This year’s guest of honor for the Flag Day for the Blind included Mr. Shivji Maharaj (Social Activist), Mr. Bharatbhai Patel (MLA), Mr. P. D. Patel (President of Valsad Vakil Vikas Mandal), Ms. Bina Joshi (President of Lions Club Tithal), Ms. Sonal Solanki (President of Valsad Municipal Corporation), Ms. Ritaben Desai (Secretary of Lions Club Tithal), Ms. Dinaz Contractor (Proprietor or Adina Palace Hotel), Mr. Bagubhai (General Manager of Valsad District Central Co-operative Bank), Mr. Ashok Patel (Chairman of Umiya Social Group). Our guests distributed towels, gifts, cloths etc. to our students on this day. Also, we were successful is raising some funds on this day for our Institute.
 
Khel Mahakumbh:

Every year end we organize an event named Khel Mahakumbh wherein disabled children and adults from Valsad and nearby districts gets an opportunity to participate and win prizes/cheques. This event has been authorized by the Sports Authority of Gujarat Government. Every year hundreds of disabled adults and children participate in the Khel Mahakumbh. This is one the largest events that we organize every year. This event is like a mini Olympic for disabled kids. They get to participate in 100 meter race, shot put, tricycle racing, cricket etc. This year’s Khel Mahakumbh will start on the 30th November’13. It will be a two day event. This year we have received more than 900 entries/applications of disabled people who will be participating in this mega event. Blind Cricket:

Cricket being a popular sport in our country, we at Valsad NAB do not miss any opportunity to organize and participate in a cricket events for our disable kids. Every year apart from the Cricket tournament that happens during the Khel Mahakumbh, our students also take part in the Interstate Cricket Tournaments wherein Blind cricketers from various states participate. Our Valsad Blind Cricket team is one of the best teams in India. Our team has won several awards for cricket. This year’s Interstate Blind Cricket tournament will be held on the 27th of October’13. It will be a 3 day event. B.A.P.S. Swaminarayan School ground has been selected as the venue for this event. If there is any change in the event venue, we will inform everyone about the same.
